The ancestral home of Vengal family is situated in
erstwhile princely state Central Travancore where Pamba
River and Manimala River meets together at Nedumpuram.
Nedumpuram is an ancient and famous village in the Taluk
of Thiruvalla, Kerala well known for snake boat race
"Neeratupuram Vallamkali" and paddy fields which is
a part Kuttanad, the "Rice Bowl of Kerala".
According to history, Vengasseril Illam
(വേങ്ങശ്ശേരിൽ ഇല്ലം) at
Palayur, Thrisshur is the root family for Vengal family.
Over the decades, Vengasseril was shorted to form 'Vengal'
(വേങ്ങൽ) . Our ancestors also adopted Christianity from
St.Thomas Apostle of Jesus Christ during the period A.D.
52-54. In A.D.1695 there were lot of problems faced by
Malankara Christians from the Portuguese and a lot of
Malankara Christians migrated out of Thrissur during that
period. Our peace loving and hard working ancestors also
migrated from Palayur to Kuruvillangad, Kottayam. During
mid A.D 1700's, Sri. Iype, our known first forefather
migrated to Nedumpuram Village in Thiruvalla Taluk to take
up the job of a Sanskrit Pandit with well known Vaikom
illam who used own agricultural properties in Nedumpuram
Village.
The members of the Vengal family had signed an agreement
on 28th June 1907 at Amichakary Muri in Nedumpuram
Village. As per the agreement, children of all
generations born from Shri.KochuIype who by the years have
started living separately had decided to meet and grow in
unity as per the signed protocol.
The family tree of the Vengal Kudumbam originated from
the forefather Sri. Vengal KochuIype and the branches have
spread across the world thereon. The universe of Vengal
family, cousins and relatives comprises of doctors,
engineers, bankers, professors, government officials,
architects, management experts, businessmen and other
diversified fields.
The members of this illustrative family has been
assembling together every year for the over 100 years and
we had celebrated our centenary year in 2008 with a public
meeting at Thiruvalla.
We, the members of Vengal family are lucky in our parents
for the roots have remained firm and continues to grow
strong to the next forthcoming generation by the grace of
God.
